Privacy Policy

The Brieftide is built to be read without being tracked. We collect as little as possible, never sell your data, and never track you across other sites. Our analytics are cookieless, and any advertising is shown only after you opt in. This page explains exactly what we hold, why, and the control you have over it.

Who we are

The Brieftide is an independent AI-news publication. For anything in this policy, the data controller can be reached at brief@thebrieftide.com. References to “we” and “us” mean the operator of this site.

What we collect

We only collect personal data in two narrow cases:

  • Your email address, if you subscribe to the newsletter. Subscription uses double opt-in: we send a confirmation link and only activate your address once you click it.
  • Search queries, if you use on-site search. The text you type is sent to our search provider to find matching articles and is not tied to your identity or stored against a profile.

Like any website, our hosting provider also processes standard technical data (such as your IP address and request headers) to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We do not combine this into advertising or behavioural profiles.

How we use it

Your email is used solely to send the newsletter you asked for. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or any unrelated purpose, and we never sell, rent, or share subscriber lists. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

Subscriber addresses are encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM); a separate keyed hash is used only to prevent duplicate sign-ups. We cannot read the stored list without the encryption keys.

Service providers we use

We rely on a small set of processors, each handling data only on our instructions:

  • Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and security at the edge.
  • Supabase — database that stores site content and the encrypted subscriber list.
  • Resend — delivery of confirmation and newsletter emails.
  • OpenAI — processes on-site search queries to return relevant results.
  • Google AdSense — serves display advertising, and only sets cookies after you consent (see “Advertising and consent” below).

International transfers

Some of these providers may process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

We keep your email only while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your address is removed from the active list. Search queries are processed transiently and are not retained against your identity.

Cookies and local storage

Our analytics are cookieless and the site stores only small, functional values in your browser (for example to remember your ad-consent choice or interface preferences). The single category of cookies that may be set is advertising cookies, and only after you opt in — see below.

Advertising and consent

To keep The Brieftide free to read, we may show display advertising served by Google AdSense. We use Google’s Consent Mode: advertising and personalisation storage is denied by default, and ad cookies are only set if you choose “Accept all” in our consent banner. If you choose “Necessary only”, no advertising cookies are set.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site’s storage in your browser. For EU/EEA and UK readers, consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) is the legal basis for advertising cookies. Learn more about how Google uses data in its advertising policy.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. EU/EEA and UK readers may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these, email brief@thebrieftide.com. To stop the newsletter immediately, use the unsubscribe link in any issue.

Children

The site is intended for a general, professional audience and is not directed at children under 16.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date.
