TL;DR

  • 01Meta’s AI Mode synthesizes answers from public Facebook posts and Reels.
  • 02Users can ask a question in plain language and receive a synthesized answer based on what people are discussing, rather than scrolling through standard search results.
  • 03AI Mode, the headline feature, aggregates and synthesizes content from public Facebook posts, Groups and Reels to produce single-answer responses to user questions.

Meta announced Monday it is rolling out new AI features on Facebook, led by a search experience called AI Mode that surfaces answers pulled from public posts across the platform, including Groups and Reels. Users can ask a question in plain language and receive a synthesized answer based on what people are discussing, rather than scrolling through standard search results.

What Meta released

AI Mode, the headline feature, aggregates and synthesizes content from public Facebook posts, Groups and Reels to produce single-answer responses to user questions. The company also added creative editing tools for video montages, including collage cutouts and transition effects. Facebook’s new AI-powered photo presets let users change clothes, hairstyles and accessories. Sports fans can tap the AI Edit icon in Stories and choose “Wear It” to virtually wear team jerseys. Users can also go to their profile picture and select “Restyle profile picture with AI” and “Wardrobe.”

These additions follow a string of recent AI rollouts on Facebook. In February, Meta introduced animated profile pictures that add motions such as a wave or a virtual party hat. In March, Meta added an AI feature to Facebook Marketplace that automatically replies to buyer messages on sellers’ behalf. Earlier this month, Facebook launched an AI assistant for creators that offers personalized suggestions, including the best times to post and summaries of what audiences are saying in the comments, based on a creator’s content and performance history. The company also quietly launched Forum last month, a Reddit-style app that includes an Ask tab which pulls answers from discussions across Facebook Groups.

How it works and the concerns

AI Mode is designed to summarize what everyday users are saying rather than drawing from vetted sources. That design introduces a risk of outdated or misleading information slipping through, a concern the article links to similar questions raised about Google’s AI Mode on Reddit. Because the system synthesizes group chatter and public posts, reliability depends on the quality of the underlying conversations.

Meta has bundled these product changes into a broader push that includes monetization moves. The company recently launched global subscription plans for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp starting at $3.99 a month that unlock additional features, and the piece says more AI-related subscription tiers are reportedly on the way.

Why it matters

Meta is tying multiple AI features into Facebook’s core experience: search, creation and profile presentation. Consolidating signals from Groups and Reels into a single synthesized answer could change how people look up local news, trends and opinions on the platform. At the same time, pulling directly from public posts shifts the source of truth from established outlets to everyday users, which raises moderation and misinformation trade-offs that platform teams will have to manage.

What to watch

Track how Meta handles accuracy and moderation for AI Mode answers, and whether the company publishes guardrails or provenance signals for synthesized responses. Also watch for the rollout of the reported AI-focused subscription tiers and how Forum’s Ask tab and AI-assisted creator tools affect engagement in Groups and Reels.
