How will Jio Call Agent and TeleFrame work?
Jio Call Agent runs embedded in Reliance’s telecom network rather than as a standalone app, letting the assistant join calls natively and be activated with the wake phrase "Hey Jio." Embedding the service in the network is intended to reduce reliance on third-party call-assistant apps and give Reliance distribution advantage. TeleFrame is a home display that proactively surfaces information and recommendations via AI agents, and the MyJio AI feature performs tasks across the app through natural-language requests.
Reliance positioned these services as part of a larger AI infrastructure effort. The company launched Reliance Intelligence last year to develop AI infrastructure and services across consumer, business, and government use cases, including applications that support 22 Indian languages.
Why is Reliance pushing this now?
Reliance is aiming to build a domestic AI champion as India remains dependent on foreign AI models and cloud providers. The company has been accelerating partnerships with Google, Meta, and Nvidia, and it said earlier this year it plans to invest $110 billion in AI infrastructure. Mukesh Ambani framed the drive in national terms, saying, "India should not be a mere consumer of AI created elsewhere. It must become a creator, adopter, and a global leader in AI." The push also arrives as Reliance prepares Jio for an IPO and seeks new growth drivers, with the conglomerate’s shares down about 17% this year.
What are the unanswered questions?
Reliance said the services would operate with user consent but did not clarify whether data generated by the products could be used to train AI models or shared with technology partners. That gap matters given recent moves such as restrictions on access to some Anthropic models that have highlighted supply-chain risks for Indian companies relying on foreign models.
